Pankaj Goel has been appointed as the new Chief Technology Officer of fintech upstart BharatPe. Goel served as Razorpay's Head of Payments Engineering before joining BharatPe.

Commenting on Goel's appointment, Nalin Negi, the interim CEO and CFO of BharatPe said, "With a seasoned engineering leader like Pankaj joining the team, we are confident that we will be able to build best-in-class fintech products that will further enable the next level of growth for the BharatPe Group of Companies. Pankaj’s phenomenal work during his rich career of close to 30 years is a testament of his strategic vision, managerial acumen, and ability to drive business growth through technology."

The fintech business said that Pankaj will be in charge of BharatPe's technology team as well as the Group of Companies' overall technology and innovation strategy.

It is important to note that Razorpay's Total Payment Volume (TPV) increased from $1 billion to $100 billion under Goel's direction.

Goel formerly held executive positions at Sun Microsystems, Trilogy, and Intuit. His National Institute of Technology, Warangal Bachelor of Technology degree is in Electronics and Communications. At the Indian Institute of Management in Bangalore, he also earned his MBA.

BharatPe, a fintech business, has been engaged in controversy since 2022. The business has seen several C-suite executives leave. After a disagreement with the company's co-founders and investors from Sequoia in March 2022, the former CEO Ashneer Grover was fired from his position. Following Grover's tenure as CEO, Suhail Sameer, the company's co-founder, left the firm within months of his appointment. After then, co-founder Bhavik Koladiya also quit his job at the business. Other departures include Chandrima Dhar, the head of institutional debt relationship, and chief revenue officer Nitish Sharma.
