Industrialist Anand Mahindra's uncle Keshub Mahindra, a former chairman of the Mahindra Group and an industrialist, passed away on April 12 at the age of 99. The chairman of the Indian National Space Promotion and Authorization Centre (INSPACe), Pawan Goenka, recently tweeted to confirm the news.

Goenka tweeted, "The industrial world has lost one of the tallest personalities today. Shri Keshub Mahindra had no match; the nicest person I had the privilege of knowing. I always looked forward to meetings with him and was inspired by how he connected business, economics and social matters. Om Shanti."

As the news of Keshub Mahindra's passing spread, former Infosys board member Mohandas Pai and Raymond Chairman and Managing Director Gautam Singhania expressed their respects to the titan of the business world.

Singhania wrote, "Keshubji lived a glorious life guiding the growth of the Mahindra group for nearly five decades. With his endearing personality, he could navigate many challenging situations. My deepest condolences to the family, employees, and well-wishers of Mahindra Group. RIP Keshub Mahindra."

In 1947, Keshub Mahindra began working for the Mahindra Company after graduating from Wharton. In 1963, he advanced to the position of chairman of the Mahindra Group. Making the iconic Willys Jeeps was the primary business of the Mahindra Group at the time. In 2012, Mahindra stepped down from his position as conglomerate chairman and gave his nephew Anand Mahindra the leadership.

He has also been assigned to a number of government bodies, including the Central Advisory Council of Industry and the Sachar Committee on Business Law and Monopolistic and Restrictive Trade Practices (MRTP) Laws.

In 1987, the French government honoured him with the Chevalier de l'Ordre National de la Legion d'honneur. From 2004 until 2010, he served as a member of the Prime Minister's Council on Trade and Industry.

Mahindra was also the President Emeritus of the Employers' Federation of India and a member of Assocham's Apex Advisory Council. The seasoned businessman has also held positions on the boards and councils of organisations including Indian Hotels, ICICI, Steel Authority of India Ltd (SAIL), Tata Chemicals, and ICICI Bank.

Along with these roles, he founded the Housing and Urban Development Corporation Limited (HUDCO), served as vice chairman of the Housing Development Finance Corporation, chairman of Mahindra Ugine Steel, director of Bombay Dyeing & Manufacturing, and was the sole shareholder of Bombay Burmah Trading Corporation Limited.
